Hi:

I followed the instructions of Rajit Srinivas to use external jar files.

I am confused about how to do

2)In project properties, create a Library reference for this J2EE DC (please see above messages).

I tried to build and I got the following warning. I think I am missing the above step.

I am not sure if this would be relevant or helpful. I am pretty new to Webdynpro, but been with Java for a couple of years.

We used to write Build Scripts, .xml to compile and create teh ear/jar of the compiled components.

Here in the build scripts, write content to copy the compiled components in a seperate structure along with the external jars you need into the specific folders and then create a jar/ear/war whatever you require.

I believe this might work.

Hi Adrian,

I just fought with this in 7.0 sp10 (or 2004s sp10, at least I think they are the same thing!). It is not trivial to work out what is going on but I can assure you I got it working eventually. If you can reply with some more info on what you have in the way of config I will compare it to what I have that is working. But as a first thing to test, as mentioned in my post earlier in the thread, the main thing I was missing was that contrary to the documentation, you do need to make sure that when you create a "used DC" that references the "assembly" public part of the External Library DC, you must make sure it has both "Build" and "Assembly" dependencies. (the documentation suggests just one of these, I forget which).

the only way i have managed to see the included jars in the Visual Administrator after a deploy is using a J2EE Server Component - Library but that breaks the DC model so it is no good.

We are using SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) SP9

Then sorry, I am much less useful than advertised. I in the end used J2EE Server Library, referencing an External Library DC, as I could not get the External Library DC to work for anything other than local build. It would never deploy to the server. Although this is very convoluted, I just needed it to work so was happy with the solution.. is there a reason you can't use a J2EE Library?

That is ok, no harm done =). Atleast I know that it is not just myself in this abyss hehe. Well the main reason is the client wants us to use the DC model but if there is an issue ill let them hound SAP support directly. It might be an SP issue. Who knows, there are like 4 or 5 different ways to do it.

To be honest, I don't know how much it breaks the model. I think this is just where it touches the J2EE model, so there is some friction... J2EE Library is the correct way to do it on a J2EE server as far as I can tell, so, see for example note 833415.. to quote:

Think im already late for this... but it may be useful to someone who reads this forum later.

I am struggling with exactly the same problem for the past more than 24

odd hours now. The sad part - Im sure I have seen this being done in a

matter of a few minutes when my team mate had an older version on NWDS.

(I am currently using SP16 NWDS). May be this indeed is a bug that SAP

needs to fix in its SP16 NWDS release.

I need to use the HSSF POI libraries for my webdynpro components and

have been trying ALL possible options given out here on SDN. To mention a

few, I have tried -

1) Jarrod's method of making a Java DC and then declaring a usage

dependency for it inside a J2EE Server (library) DC. It didnt work... it

gave me a warning that an illegal reference has been made to the runtime

public part. And the final SDA file generated in the J2EE server

component DC DIDNOT contain the jar files that I had added to the public part

of the Java DC. On investigating further, I found that there were NO

entities present in BOTH the public parts of the Java DC, even though the

folder actually contained all the required .jar files.

2) Creating an External Library DC, adding the JAR files to the

'libraries' folder. Creating two public parts, one for assembly and the second

for compilation. Then adding this DC as a 'Used DC' into a J2EE Server

(library) DC. Yet, the .sda file that is created on building the J2ee

Server (library) DC DOESNOT contain the JAR files.

3) Creating an external library DC, adding the JAR files to the

'libraries' folder. Creating two public parts, one for assembly and the second

for compilation. Then adding this DC as a 'Used DC' into a webdynpro

DC. On building this webdynpro DC, the .ear file DOESNOT contain the JAR

files.

4) Directly adding the JAR files to my own webdynpro component in the

'src/packages' folder. This didnt work because on rebuilding the

project, the JAR files get deleted on their own.

5) Renaming my .JAR files to .ZIP, extracting the entire package

structure into folders, copy pasting this entire folder structure along with

its .class files into the src/packages folder. On rebuilding, the NWDS

deletes these folders and files on its own / behaves erratically. Also

copy pasted these .class files along with the proper package structure

into the '/bin' directory of my webdynpro application, but it still

didnt work.

The only thing that I have to try yet is to shift to SP10 of NWDS,

build this external library project and get the required JAR files put on

the wendynpro server. After that I might choose to get back onto the

SP16 version and hopefully continue productive work... !

This is very late on this thread, but for anyone who stumbles across it, as I did and is frustrated with External Jars not making it to their deployment archives... here is my experience.

Like Navneet above I tried all the things in his list, and every single time I thought I had it but none of my Jar files actually made it to the Server. What I found was that there are several places in the docs where it says to create an External Library, then add two Public Parts, one of type assembly and one of type Compile, then create two used DC's, one for Build time and one for Runtime. The crucial bit for me was that the "Runtime" Used DC entry in your wrapper DC must also have a Dependency Type of Build. This one check box means the difference between the jar files making it to the SDA or not.<p/>

So - to summarise what I did was:<br/>

<ul>

1. Create an External Library DC<br/>

2. Copy all of the Jars I needed to the libraries folder of this DC<br/>

3. Create two Public Parts (right click on the jar files in Package Explorer)<br/>

<ul>i) compilePart (with purpose compilation)<br/>

ii) assemblyPart (with purpose assembly)<br/></ul>

4 Create a new DC of type J2EE Server Component / Library<br/>

5. Add a Used DC to the J2EE Library, reference the compilePart from previous step, and set Dependency type to Build<br/>

6. Add another Used DC, reference the assemblePart, this time <b>select both Build and Runtime Dependency Types</b></br>

7. Build and deploy.<br/>

Hi,

When your giving library reference from webdynpro application, please go to the visual admin -> libraries and check the deployed library.

you have to the give the deployed library name in the visual admin to the libray reference of the webdynpro..

For component based Development the deployed library might have some extension(including vendor name and domain name).

Once you've created both the DCs (webdynpro & j2ee DCs), rt-click on WebDynpro DC -> Properties -> WebDynpro References -> Library References (tab). Here make an entry for your J2EE DC (for ex. local.com~my_j2ee_dc)

I need some clarification.

What my confusion is about how you figure out this "local.com~my_j2ee_dc"

Becasue the SDA created for J2EE DC is names as "sap.com_crminsight~poi_library"

So in this case what should I add in the tab Library Reference?

I have already spent lot of time on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Raja,

Its the name of the J2EE DC that you've created. Since its a DC development(for ex. LocalDevelopment), it is usually LocalDevelopment_myj2eedclocal.com.

Simply put its the name of your j2ee DC project.

While I was going thru the process again and again I figured out that J2EE DC is not deployed to the server. Funny thing is when deployed the J2ee Dc it is dployed successfully.

But J2EE DC has Build has warnings.

warning: unable to read PublicPartsListFile for runtime(public part).

By the way I am using SP16.

All I am trying is, I have a jar file which I am trying to reference only in one WebDynpro application.

Could please suugest me a that works for SP16?

If I have to build the J2EE Library DC, how to build with out warnings?
