Is there any difference in system copy between R/3 and BW ?

Hello,

If you mean by system copy a homogeneous copy with both source and target systems running on SQL Server, there is no difference as long as you use the sp_detach_db/sp_attach_db method described in note 151603.

For heterogeneous system migrations, where the source system is running on a different DBMS, the answer is a little bit more complex and depends on your release. For NW'04, though there are some internal differences, the document "Homogeneous and Heterogeneous System Copy for SAP Systems Based on SAP Web Application Server ABAP 6.40 SR1" is valid for both BW 3.5 and ECC 5.0. Check the heterogeneous system copy guide for your release.

Technically there is no difference but please follow the OSS Note 886102 to make sure you do the necessary pre and post processing tasks as required by your scenario. There are also guides available in service.sap.com/atg to help you with the planning and execution.
