I have gone thru the various material regd. Archive link. I want to confirm few points from you.
1. Is Archive link part of DMS or PLM.
2. In Archive link we can't edit, only chek in / print / display possible. Where as in DMS / KPRO we can edit.
3. Enhancements not possible in Archive link.

Responses are as below:
1. As you are aware ArchiveLink is a service integrated in the SAP Web Application Server for linking archived documents and the application documents entered in the SAP system. Hence, Archivelink would qualify as a part of Basis Services activities(going by the way its organized in IMG).
2. The statutory legal compliance is different for various countries when it comes to docuemnt storage(Eg: Docs need to stored for minimum 3years,7 years et-al). Archivelink ensures long term easy access to the documents. Hence, the key activities that can be performed are search and display(DMS is used in for docs/originals modification,edits).
3. Basic customizations can be performed in Archivelink as indicated in below help link:
