Hi.
Anyone knowing where to find documentation on moving from central system to distributed system moving only the Central instance and leaving the DB on AIX (2 different servers).
Hello Henri,
you should go for a (heterogeneous?) system copy, on the 'distributed system'. Check the guide of Heterogeneous & Homogeneous System Copy. For example, the installation option "Distributed System" (p.32 of the "Homogeneous and Heterogeneous System Copy for SAP Systems Based on SAP Web Application Server 6.40 SR 1") is the option we have to choose to go from a central to a distributed installation.
There're lots of information on this and one that you should pay special attention is the following:
"Keep in mind that either the instance name, the instance number or the host name of the central instance on the target system must be different from that of the source system.". Based on this you should be able to define the same host name of the central instance for the target system (if your case, of course, but with a different java instance number). Also, by using the option "Distributed Java System", you should then be possible to choose a different host name for the database.
I hope this information helps.
Best regards,
Tomas Black

This should not be necessary since the database platform is unchanged.
Basically you can just install the new central instance (on another machine) on top of the already existing database instance.
After the installation you can copy the parameters from the old instance to the new one.. Just take care of OS specific instance parameters, for the rest you should be fine..
Kind regards,
Mark
