EHP Installation error

Former Member

When I am in step 4 (Checks) of the ABAP installation phase I getthe following error:

INFO> Your current SAP kernel is more recent or has the same version

than the kernel in directory 'D:\usr\sap\TBW\EHPI\abap\exenew'.

The SAP kernel will n o t be replaced.

ERROR> Extend the file system by 1114414219 KBytes where

directory D:\usr\sap\TBW\EHPI\abap is located.

The D drive has 3.2 TB OPEN on it. What is this error really telling me. I am on a Windows 2008 64 bit platform with oracle.

Hello Tom,

1) please review the user's access to D:\usr\sap\TBW\EHPI (and beyond), there were some cases where the tool was unable to write to the subdirectories and ended up throwing this odd error message;

2) are you using the very last ehpi tool available in SAP Market Place? If not, please do so, as well as the latest tp and R3trans tools for your system version.

If the issue persists, please inform if this is an HA (high availability) setup, from which version are you upgrade (and to which one) and if you're using mountpoints (or any kind of links to files/directories).

Best regards,

Hi Tomas

Thanks for the quick response:

1.) I have reveiwed all of the directories and my sidadm account can write to them all. My sidadm account is a member of the SAP_LocalAdmin group, the SAP_<SID>_GlobalAdmin group, SAP_<SID>_LocalAdmin group and the Administrators group.

2.) I pulled down the latest tp and R3trans (4/29/10). I also pulled down the latest EHPI package.

3.) I am not running any kind of HA environment. Just a Windows 2008 install with Oracle 10.2.0.4. This is a brand new installation. I started with the Netweaver DVD's from SAP.

I did notice that during the install the sapmnt and saploc share names were attached to the /usr/sap/<SID> directory. I know the EHPinstaller uses these names instead of the "shared directory (i.e /usr/sap/<SID>)". When I look at the shares in the windows explorer I see the file size of the share names are 0. It is not the size of the actual directory (/usr/sap/<SID>). I am not sure if that has anything to do with it, but I thought I would mention it to you.

Thanks in advance for your help, I was hoping to have this completed by Monday morning Chicago time.

Hello Tom,

please copy and paste the last lines of sapinst_dev.log file and then locate the part of keydb.xml file where it says "SAPINST_ISNT_STATUS"; search for the expression ERROR from this point onwards - the next occurrence of ERROR will inform the step where sapinst tool failed, this is what I need to know.

Regarding the sharing info, if I understood it correctly, sapinst is not using /usr/sap/<SID> the 'normal' way, yet sapinst is using /sapmnt/... and /saploc/... for the installation files, right? In this case, if they're informing 0 size, you should check the permissions on the mountpoints themselves - are they placed in a Unix/Linux system? I believe the root cause of the problem is located here - if possible, avoid using NFS/shares/mountpoints and unpack the DVDs (and use sapinst) on a local directory.

Hi Tomas

I can not locate a file called sapinst_dev.log.

Thanks,

Tom

Sorry Tom, I completely mixed up here, too many messages I think

I meant sapehpiconsole.log instead of sapinst_dev.log. Also put the last info of SAPehpichk.log and the correspondent CHECK phase log (you might have to close the warning window on the EHPI GUI to have the error info written in sapehpiconsole.log).

The info about share drives/mount point is still valid, though

Additional point to check: are you using the latest FIX for this ehpi install?

Hello Tom,

unfortunetly the logs don't show anything relevant. Please open a message in SAP Support as a consultant will have to log on your system to check other logs/settings.

(please let me know the message number as soon as you do it, perhaps I can help)

Best regards,

Hi Tomas

Since this was a new installation I decided to just get the DVD's for the EHP 1 and install it from scratch. That installation worked. I am applying the SP's to get everythng up to date right now.

Thanks Alot for you help.

I have got the same error message, windows + sql server with the latest ehpi, and reinstall does not get rid of it.

The SAP kernel will n o t be replaced.

When I disable SQL Server data file AUTO GROWTH, and enlarge to sufficient space.

The error message turn to strange negative value.:-)

INFO> Your current SAP kernel is more recent or has the same version

than the kernel in directory 'L:\usr\sap\ECC\EHPI\abap\exenew'.

The SAP kernel will n o t be replaced.

ERROR> Extend the file system by -2147483648 KBytes where

directory L:\usr\sap\ECC\EHPI\abap is located.

I am afraid it is related with SQL Server datafile and SAP usr and ehpi folder within the same drive, I will consider a third time installation.

After some try and fail, this issue is solved by:

1. Disable AUTO Growth, manually enlarge DB size to 250GB.

2. Separate DB file and sap installation folder to different drive.

Thanks.
