Hi All,
Component: ERP 6.0 EHP1 SR1
DB: MaxDB
Operating System: RHEL 5 SR3
Server Architecture: IBM X3650 M2(7947)
Followed Reference: Master Guide For EHP1 SR1
We have installed a new SAP ABAP system where in the SAP installation was
successful. After the fresh installation we have upgraded the Kernel to
the latest one which was downloaded from the SAP Market place. After the Kernel upgrade we ran SGEN then to go further with the post installation activities.
Unfortunately nothing seems to work at the moment. When SGEN was getting performed we have noticed that nothing was happening on the screen,
everything was stand still.
We did even try to log on to the server using SAP Gui but it displays SAP
GUI for windows and that's it, nothing happens either.
Since the Installation we have bee following SAP Master Guide for ERP 6.0
EHP1 SR1. All the parameters have been keyed in according to the notes
provided.
Notes followed since Installation

The Whole time taken for the SAP installation is about 23 hours. Then
upgraded the kernel to the latest ones available in the market.
The original installed kernel patch level was:32
The latest installed kernel patch level is: 93
Files downloaded from SAP Market place in order to perform kernel upgrade
are: SAPEXE_69-10005984.SAR, SAPEXEDB_69-10005988.SAR, dw_93-10005984.sar.
After the successful upgrade process we then ran SGEN transaction,
everything seems to be alright for a while and then found that nothing is
happening on the screen. We did even try loggin on to the SAP server
using SAP GUI but wasn't able to log on to it either.
Checked the DB state using command: dbmcli -U c db_state and the output
was: ok, state, online
Then tried R3trans -x: the return code was(0000). Also tried checking
R3trans -d, the output is: checking ADA db Database and that's it,
nothing happens here. Just the cursor at the command line blinks for ever.
Tried dpmon to check the Work Processes status.
Typed dpmon
Output: the dispatcher queue statistics are displayed
-->q quit
-->m menu
select m
and selected option l to take a look at the work processes. We noticed
that all the work processes seem to be in the run state.

If the logs of MaxDB get full your system will be frozen...
You can install DB Manager in your PC to check the log utilization. Basically if the logs are full the only way to reset it is to do a log backup.
You can also do this task using the dbmcli commands... if its the first time you backup your system then you'll need to define the backup media an do a full backup before the log backup.
All this info is on the guides.

Juan
Hi guys,
Thanks a lot for all ur sweet replies.. Finally my work processes started working.. I have recently installed DB studio and god know how i got connected to the database using the studio. Then log file came in to my notice, it was damn full. I have added nother logfile and restart the database using DB studio and thts it.. I see my work processes in the wait state and i does allow my login now...
The thing is, i see my data file size as 91% full, log file size as 80% full and same with the sessions.. I need some serious help help. Would some tell me wats goin on here and assist me with some precious inputs. I have already added couple data files and log files but i still see no big change..
This system has no data as of now, i have recently installed SAP on to it..
Thanks in advance.
Thanks and regards
Pradeep Aleti
