Installing ECC 6.0 on Novell SLES 10 with Oracle RAW

Hi

I want to install Oracle on raw / logical volumes. AIX guide says to create the LVs in smitty with "type=r3data". But on SLES there is no option for type. Do I just create the LVs with lvcreate as normal? anything special i need to know?

Hi Colin,

I believe that you are you are trying to install Oracle 10.2, right?

[Instguides|http://service.sap.com/instguides] -> Database Upgrades -> Oracle

-> Upgrade to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2): UNIX

In the installation guide page 19:

For systems that use raw devices for the datafiles, the AUTOEXTEND option might not work because of the fixed size of the raw devices. In this case you might need to add another datafile by adding a new volume or partition on the operating system.

If you are not using 10.2, just look on the same place ([Instguides|http://service.sap.com/instguides] -> Database Upgrades -> Oracle) and find the installation guides to all supported Oracle versions.
