We can access the SAP J2EE Engine startup page either via 8000 or also via 50000. So what exactly is the difference between them . and why is there a need for an alternate port number for SAP J2EE Engine.
Thanking you in advance ...

Hello Eddy,
I hope that you did not understand what I am looking for.
I want to know why are there two ports for the sap j2ee engine access.(8000 / 50000).

Prem

Premkishan,
I suppose your Java engine is a Add-In installation to the ABP-stack.
if so, the port 50000 is the dedicated java-http port. port 8000 is the ICM-port (Internet Communictaion Manager). The ICM distinguishes with the URL-path whether it has to forward the request to the ABAP-stack or to the Java stack.

Hello Achim,
thanks for the info.
So Can you please tell me one more thing...
if I can access the J2EE Startup page via http://hostname.domain.com:<b>8000</b>/ then why do we use http://hostname.domain.com:<b>50000</b>/ .
Thanking you.
Regards,
Prem
Premkishan,
you don't really have to use 50000 if you have configured the ICM in that way, that it forwards each java-request really to the java-stack.
check http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/53/97583c2439e66fe10000000a114084/frameset.htm for detailed explanation.
but someteimes, I feel better to connect to the java-stack directly, because it's one misconfiguration-prone error less...
on the other hand, thinking of network security, it would be better to open just the ICM-port to get access to both (ABAP & Java), except of opening two or three ports only for http-requests.
