Can properties of SAP Standard fields be changed?

Hello,

In an SAP Standard Web Dynpro application like RPM, during creation of a new item under Portfolio Management, some of the fields like 'EXTERNAL ID' are read-only because of the custom calculation of the same allowed via a BAPI. Now, we need to enter some project data manually and want fields like 'EXTERNAL ID' editable so that we can enter an existing ID there. Is there a way to accomplish that?

Please check the customizing, transaction spro :

SAP xApp Resource and Portfolio Management (SAP xRPM) -> Global Customizing -> Check SAP Field Configuration -> UI Configuration
