Non-production refresh

Hi All,

We have ECC 6.0 Landscape DEV-> QAS -> UAT -> PRD.

I need to refresh UAT data from PRD once a month .

If I explore system export/ import option , that will need downtime in PRD system.Considering the big size of PRD it will need large downitme every month .

What are the methods to refresh UAT ssytem using PRD data without downtime in PRD ?

Appreciate your help in this.

Thanks,

Chirag

HI,

2:- System Export / IMport using SAP tools ( Needs downtime ).

We will call this homogenous/hetrogenous system copy, and yes you can decrease downtime if you proceed with DB specific method , not export/ import.

3:- Cleint Export from PRD and import into UAT ( Does it need downtime in PRD ? ).

Yes ofcourse you need downtime in PRD for export .

4:- ANy other option ?????

As we are saying go for homogenous system copy.

Hi All,

For Homogeneous system Copy can I use following steps ?

I am running ECC 6.0 ABAP+JAVA on DB2 - UNIX .

1:- Take online backup of DB2 from PRD and refresh UAT DB2 databse . ( No downime in PRD )

2:- Take JAva export from PRD and import into UAT . ( Downtime in PRD )

Is this method supported by SAP ?

How much downtime it may need in total ?

Thanks,

Chirag.

Hi,

Suggest you to read homogenous system copy guide

https://service.sap.com/instguides

Also you need to follow sequence for activities, steps you are saying is very much possible .

You need to start with sapinst , which will guide you through the process.

Use the online backup along with the homogeneous systems copy( as said by Juan and Gagan), then you done need to afford any downtime.

PRD is free from down time.

Though for online backup, you need to restore the logs, the option is still feasible.

If you are takeing offline backup of server(which should be there), then you can use system copy option using database backup/restore method.

Also in case you have online backup , you can also restore that for system copy.

But best option is to use offline database backup for system copy.

this link will guide

Thats ok if the system is ABAP... but using that method in an ABAP+JAVA scenario could leave you with lots of headaches...

For an ABAP+JAVA the best is to do a homogeneous system copy for the refresh

Agreed!!!

For ABAP+JAVA homogenous is the best option.
