Dear Friends,

We hae installed SAP MaxDB 7.7.028 on Windows 2003 x86 server. Under Services.msc, I see the following services...

MAXDB: .M770428

MAXDB: .M770428 (SLOW)

MAXDB: .M770609

MAXDB: .UMDB

MAXDB: .SDB Started

MAXDB: .SDB (SLOW)

What exactly are these services and what is the differenece between a SLOW service and a regular service?

Thank you,

Nikee

Dear Natalia,

Thanks for perfect answers.

One last question..i.e. At the moment, all the services are set to "MANUAL" start except the SDB Service set to "AUTOMATIC".

Do you recommend setting to "AUTOMATIC" for all the services except the "SLOW" services?

Thank you,

Nikee

Hello Nikee,

1. Please review the document u201CActivating Automatic Database Startu201D at

http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_7/44/c076e08c78157be10000000a114a6b/content.htm

As you saw you can configure your system so that the database and X Server will be started automatically when the database server is started and are stopped automatically when it is shut down.

2. You have the SDB database instance and DB studio installed on this server. Correct?

Please update the thread with output of the commands running on the database server:

dbmcli inst_enum

dbmcli db_enum -s

Thank you and best regards, Natalia Khlopina

Hello Nikee,

As I could see you have the SDB database instance and Database Studio installed on the server.

Itu2019s fine to have the SDB Service set to "AUTOMATIC" only.

Thank you and best regards, Natalia Khlopina

Hi Nathalia

I got some issue (not sure if is it really an issue)

I migrated MaxDB version 7.5 win 2003 -> to 7.9 win 2008 by backup/restore method.

I am doing some checks after but I cannot see service visible as running in "services"

My SDB instance is running as "speci"

sending my outputs and screenshots:

Is there any option to change it to "fast: and visible the service? (parameted change? )

On source system is running as "fast" and service is visible.

Many thanks in advance for advice

Hi Daniel,

i guess you has started a special executable of the kernel with the -x option of the db_online command.

>dbmcli -d SDB -u CONTROL,CONTROL db_online -x checkknl

The -x option for special kernel is only for test and diagnose purpose

shutdown your db with db_offline and restart it again with db_online -f

Hi Daniel,

The db_online command is a NOOP if the kernel is running.

Please stop first the kernel with.

>dbmcli –d SDB –u CONTROL,CONTROL db_offline

and than restart it with

>dbmcli –d SDB –u CONTROL,CONTROL db_online –f

now the fast service should be running

Hi Burkhard

I did before stop (including kill kernel processes on OS side), but it status is still the same, below can see outputs.

Service also not visible after refresh.

Any other suggestions?

Hi Daniel,

I wonder why the fast kernel is not registered.

Try to register the service for your fast kernel with

xservice -d SDB

restart the db afterwards db_online
