Can someone explain me with what exactly is the use of the table VKDFS.

It is Billing Initiator : It says whether a billing document should refer with Order or Delivery.

This table gets populated upon Goods Issue of delivery. And the entries are deleted from this table once invoice is created. So entries of this table are considered while creating the Billing Due List in SAP. So when you run VF04 with different criterions SAP fetches the results from this table as it contains deliveries that have GI posted but not invoiced.
