abap/heap buffer settings post ECC 6.0 upgrade

Hi, after recieving, our much anticipated post upgrade (ECC 5.0 -> ECC 6.0) GLFUV report from SAP. We are now looking at recommended parm changes. I know this from the past Looking to the abap/heap_area_dia, nondia, total. From the past at one time recommendation was 0 for all 3, then true value of 2GB 2000683008. Then back to 0 now SAP is recommending 2GB again. Any one in this forum have a clue which is true or real value at this point in time? I'm very confused. I know I can go to SAP and get an explanation but would like to ask this groups opinion first. 6 way Power 5+, 80 GB memory, 8TB disk 3.2 TB used. OS V5R4M5

Thanks Udo

Hello Udo,

iSeries has its own unique parameter settings which are differ from any other platforms and those

best practice settings are recorded in SAP note 139326.

Like you can check:

rdisp/PG_MAXFS = 32768 (32 MB, paging file)

rdisp/PG_SHM = 32768 (32 MB, paging buffer)

abap/heaplimit = 40000000 (40 MB, work process restart)

abap/heap_area_dia = 2000000000 (2 GB heap per dialog WP)

abap/heap_area_nondia = 2000000000 (2 GB heap per non-dialog WP)

abap/heap_area_total = 2000000000 (2 GB heap per SAP System )

Above setting parameters as recommendation you also can tunning your system throught ST02--Tune

summary to varify if they are fit for your situation.

Hope this can help you.

Best regards.

Hi Udo & Jennifer,

it's hard to say from here ;-(

@Jennifer:

Yes, iSeries, has its own parameters, but most of the ones, you were mentioning are platform independent.

AND: it is VERY risky to reduce parameters without understanding them truely in the customer's system ...

(0 => *NOMAX !!!!)

@Udo:

So, I would suggest, that we have a short look at that and make decisions together. It is not really helpful, to "just" implement and SAP report in your pretty large SAP system without fully understood & checked this.

Hi Udo,

... the best would be, you drop me a mail with the parameters, you should change with the old and new values. Then we can discuss on this ...
