HI,
I need information regarding the architecture of netweaver and R/3 including mySAP 2004 and 2005.
I don't understand whether r/3 runs on BASIS or WAS640.What does WAS do when it is installed with EP or CRM or mySAP or in case of r/3 4.7
Any documents or links will be helpful.
Hi,
as a good starting point to understand the basic concepts
you can check the following link to the documentation on SAP Help Portal :
<a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/84/54953fc405330ee10000000a114084/content.htm">Architecture of the SAP NetWeaver Application Server</a>

Hello SDN User,
Just to express in simple words , R/3 used to sit on the BASIS which comprised of a single ABAP Stack.
But then SAP developed a new technology called Netweaver and this netweaver sits on the BASIS stack again but now the BASIS stack has been rename to Web Application Server in technical terminology. The difference being from the previous R/3 basis is that the Web Application Server comprises of two stacks ABAP & JAVA Stack.
Basically the need of Java Stack was seen a step towards increasing the Enterprise Solution of SAP and to be more flexibly in interacting with the Open Source and service oriented architecture.
The information provided is a very simple overview. Please refer the Mentioned Link in the previous replies to your post.
Regards,
Prem

Hi SDN User!
You can also check out the master guides for the particular mySAP ERP or SAP R/3 solution. This planning and architecture information is in the master guides.
You can find the master guides on http://service.sap.com/instguides
Cheers,
Mike.
