I am not sure your question is answered. But, you can see the action box items (may be with some restrictions). In the config for action box items, in control data you can set the Usage - which controls the visibilty of action box items - for create, change or display. But, if you set the activity as a task or activity it conflicts with the usage and may not be adle to set the usage for display.
