Client Export and Import

Former Member

Hi guys,

We have our development and Quality Assurance (QAS) servers separately. In QAS we have a client 600. We wish to copy this client to our development server onto client 400 with all data. Please tell how to proceed.

Is it possible to do a client export of 600 (SCC8) and then do client import (SCC7) in the development server client 400?

Any suggestions are welcome.

thanks and regards

Hi,

Why do you want to do FTP. I hope your transport system is confirgured. This will take care of the files.

Hi again friends,

1) Indeed space is an issue in our case.

2) I thought that the export would normally generate a huge file.....so tell me how STMS come into the picture?

thanks

Hi,

Indeed space is an issue in our case.

Ideallty it need 1/10 space what you have in your client database.

Practically for 300GB database it needs around 10-12GB in transport directory.

I thought that the export would normally generate a huge file.....so tell me how STMS come into the picture?

This file it will generate in transport directory only, so if you have common transport directory you need not to worry.

I hope it will help!!

I wish to highlight that the DEV and QAS servers are 2 different machines.

HI,

No,

4) In DEV, i use SCC7 to import the big file in client 500

Its stms where you need to import not SCC7...

Thanks a lot Gagan,

So to summarize, after the client export in QAS 600, a transport request is generated which we need to release and then import it in our DEV server?

Hi,

after the client export in QAS 600, a transport request is generated which we need to release

You dont need to release , it will directly create data and cofile .

then import it in our DEV server?

You can import into dev.

Thanks Gagan,

Its clear now.

So after the import, will we need to perform the SCC7 in the new client?

Hi,

Remote client copy will not have Space concern. If you are shor of space, remote client copy is good. Import/ Export option will involve space check. Do a test run before you actually start with the copy process to check for errors. This option is available on the initial screen of the transactions.

HI,

As mentioned by Mr.Rajesh, You can go ahead with any of otpion as both has its advantage and disadvantage..

This link will help you

http://www.sap-img.com/bc049.htm

Remote client copy take more time than a client export, the source

client is unavailable for a longer period.

The client export files can be uses to import into various system/clients at

a later time.

thanks a lot guys

very helpful

so let me summarize how to proceed (correct me if the steps not good):

1) In QAS server, Do client export of client 600 using SCC8 ( I guess this will create a big file)

2) Then i FTP this big file to DEV server

3) In DEV, i create a new client maybe say 500

4) In DEV, i use SCC7 to import the big file in client 500

5) Then later i can copy this client 500 to the client 400

Am i correct friends?

thanks n regards

Yes is possible.

I wouldn't use the developement client though... you can create a new client in DEV.

Hi,

You can do it as "Client Export - Import"

OR

You can also do "Remote Client Copy" from Quality to Development using SCC9 t-code.
