Hi Experts,
I will install ABAP Instance & it is single on a particular server(multiple instances are not running on that server) then what is the use of System Number? Why we need SN if single instance is running & how to know the SN from ABAP side??
All communication goes via the system number of your instance. So your SAP GUI connects via 32XX (dispatcher), gateway 33XX, message server 36XX, etc. So without system number communication with a SAP system is not possible.
Kind regards,
Mark

Hi Das
System Number and SID is useful while copnnecting to the SAP System.
System Number is as uniqie in SAP System.
Refer to http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/6f/4c9442d744cf6ae10000000a155106/content.htm and search on SDN for more details
Hope it helps

HI Das,
It is to maintain uniqeness.
What if you are planning to add other server later on. how you will assign number to existing one.
So SID and system number is to manage uniqeness of system, which indirectly affect your port number access as well......
