SAP WAS - 6.20, 6.40, NW04

I have a question for the support team.

I want to test SAP WAS in the areas of BSP, Web Dynpro, Java, XI, EAI.

First correct me if the following statements are wrong.

1. SAP WAS 6.20 is the ABAP engine [i.e. no Java support]

2. SAP WAS 6.40 is the JAVA engine [? i.e. no ABAP support]

If the above statements are correct, and I want to test BOTH ABAP and JAVA engines, then I need to install both WAS 6.20 and WAS 6.40 on different ports and create appropriate listeners.

If this is true, are we expecting a SINGLE SAP WAS release that runs both engines, or will they always be separate??

I also want to know where I can order mySAP [I was told to contact my SAP rep.], my SAP rep. says mySAP is the same as Enterprise, but my SAP Dummies book says otherwise.

I want NW04, what exactly should I be asking my SAP rep to deliver?? The EXACT name and version please.

Clarification would be greatly appreciated.

[I will also post this bit on Netweaver forum].

Thank you.

Sean

Hi Sean,

Both the 6.40 & the 6.20 have ABAP + Java stack.

i'm not sure if WAS 6.2 has the J2EE engine.

WAS 6.3 has the J2EE engine but does not have a J2EE developer studio so development on J2EE is painful

WAS 6.4 is part of NW04 and comes with J2EE and ABAP and a nice NetWeaver Studio for J2EE development

You can choose to hav WAS running

- ABAP only

- J2EE only

- both stacks
