The new SDNer has to use your email address when signing up and once a week we collect all of these referrals and post them in one sweep to the points system.
This is why sometimes people get a couple of referral points within a very short time.
If you allow other SDNers to see your points (via profile management), they can see it on the my contributor points screen under the "Additional Points" tab.
