We use SRM4 SAPKIBKS08
Our backend is ECC6 and we use extended classic scenario.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of each option?
u2022 Upgrade the current SRM4 system to SRM7
u2022 Build a new SRM7 system and then migrate the data from the SRM4?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
What are the advantages and disadvantages of each option?
u2022 Upgrade the current SRM4 system to SRM7
Advantages:
1.Since data migration is not there when you are upgrading from SRM 4.0 to SRM 7.0 so all the old data will be available.
2. Cost is less compared to NEW impementation of SRM 7.0
3. Time involved is upto a maximum of 6 months
4. Only Testing -Unit Testing and system Integration Testing will be done.
5. Existing process will be performed in the new upgrade enviornment.
u2022 Build a new SRM7 system and then migrate the data from the SRM4?
Disadvantages
-
1. During Data migration some data can be lost.
2. Time and Cost are more.
3.Fresh configuration to be done in SRM 7.0.
4. For all the ZEE program difficulties will be there.
5.New workflow -Business Rule Frame work to be incorporated which will new technology
If you are following the same business process better go for an UPGRADE from SRM 4.0 to SRM 7.0 .
Currently I am working for an Upgrade Project from SRM 3.0 to SRM 7.0

Dear Kumar,
Thank you very much for your answer.
I understand that you recommend upgrade better than creating a new SRM7 system.
Is there any advantage in creating a new system for SRM7 or there are disadvantages only? When would it be the right decision?
Do you know if any company chose the approach of creating a new system for SRM7 and why.
Should it be out of consideration?
Zion
Hi,
Normally any company if SRM is already implemented 99% percent they go for upgrade only because there are lot of Zee programme will be developed in the system..
if the company has new requirements in addition to the existing they can add to the new requirement.
SRM 4.0.
if your client are having the following scenario eg.-SRM 4.0
1. Self service procurement with CCM.
2.Contract Management.
3. Service Procurement.
they can upgrade with the same features in SRM 7.0
In addition
In SRM 7.0 - New Scenario -Procurement for Public sector is there which is new -Double cover tendering process which is not in earlier version.
In SRM 7.0 they are lot of features in Service procurement.
So better go for an upgrade ADDITIONAL SCENARIO can be added which will save time and cost.
In new implemenation for SRM7.0 if there are around say 100 z programs are there. you have write the same 100 Z program in SRM 7.0 server I believe which is waste and lot of time and cost is involved.
We are upgrading from SRM 3.0 to SRM 7.0 --It is a two step upgrade.
1. SRM 3.0 to SRM 5.0
2. SRM 5.0 to SRM 7.0
We are in the process..
In your case you can upgrade from SRM 4.0 to SRM 7. 0directly.
Again it depends on the Client to go for Upgrade (or) New Implementation.

I would recommend migration in the following aspects:
1. There were so many fixes in SRM3.0-5.0 and has been corrected as standard in SRM7.0, besides that there may be custom fixes, all of these can be get rid when you migrate
2. The older the version you were, the more complexities and sometimes undocumented, migration will definitely help in redrawing the plan and plan better

Hi IA,
It is a two step upgrade from SRM 3.0 to SRM 7.0
On 17.02.2010,SAP has updated the SAP SRM upgrade in that it is mentioned it is a TWO step Upgrade
Prior to that it is a SINGLE step upgrade.
Please check this path: http://service.sap.com/instguides-->; SAP SRM --> SRM 7.0
FYI

Ganesh
Hi SRM Gurus
What could be a technical reason for two step upgrade suggested from SRM3.0 to SRM7.0?
I see that there is a conflicting info from SAP documents that direct approach and two step approach.
Warm wishes,
Vasu
