I don't think that you have to do a homogeneous system copy.

But depending on your operating system a lot of single steps will have to be done.

For example look at this:

http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/HOME/ChangingSAPinstancenumberin+Windows2003

And by the way, I suppose you are talking about number of central instance?

Dialogue instance would be much easier.

PS:

But be aware that the link given above will not take care of all aspects.

For example you will have to adapt profiles and instance in transactions RZ04 and RZ10.

Agree Joe. I think on Unix you just need to change all the references from 00 to 10 ( Default, Start and instance profiles). Also need to rename /usr/sap/SID/DVEBMGS00 to /usr/sap/SID/DVEBMGS10. Check /etc/services file to make changes if any references are there for old instance no.

Now try bringing up the system. Ofcourse there will some further changes that need to be made once the system comes up.

Take a full OS backup before making any changes.

In two weeks I will be installing a new system, will definitely try to change the instance no. after the install.

Hi Jena,

Yes, you should do system copy to install a new system with instance number 10. It is the starndard procedure which is

supported by SAP.

Dear Tapan,

Already existing SAP system are there with the system no. 01.

I want to change it 01 to 10, with out doing the system copy.

For an Example: There are two sap systems have been installed with the same system no.

Due to cofusion the user wants to change the system no. from 01 to 10.

Could you please suggest me how to proceed.

Thanks,

Jena.

Unfortunately you can't... You need to do a Homogeneous system copy to change the system number as stated before.

old system no to new system no

Try to delete installed license and this will do the system number to INITIAL state, after you can install new license with

new system number. Regards.

Hi Sergo,

I think the question is about changing the instance no., something like 00 to 10, etc.

If this is he case, then yes they need homogeneous system copy.

hello Jena,

The recommended way to change the instance number is by performing

homogeneous system copy according to the documentation on the

marketplace under alias /instguides and making the change then.
