Dear Gurus,

I have already heard about database compression feature on some database product (like DB2) which is supported by SAP. Currently, I am using Oracle 9i. I got news from my Oracle consultant that Oracle 9i is also have compression feature (I haven't noticed yet).

Is compression feature on Oracle is supported by SAP ? Does Oracle 9i compression include on it ??

Thank you for your answer.

Hi,

Only SAP BW/BI meets the requirements for using the Oracle table compression feature.

Along with the above posted suggestions by Lars, Please refer following SAP notes to get more information over Oracle compression Adv/Dis-adv.

Note 1289494 - FAQ: Oracle compression

Note 105047 - Support for Oracle functions in the SAP environment

Note 598678 - Oracle 9i: New functions

As of oracle 10g, the index key compression feature is available. Refer Note 828268 - Oracle Database 10g: New functions

Compression is available with 9i and supported by SAP - just check the notes on that.

Anyhow, before starting off using some new feature you should upgrade to a Oracle version that is actually maintained further on.

Oracle 9i is out of maintenance for years now, Oracle 10g is being phased out right now - go for Oracle 11g and check the compression features there.
