Indeed, the big question is to which SAP & Database Version you want to upgrade to.

SAP 4.6C support is still available until end 2010 on Extended Support.

HP-UX 11.11 is supported until end 2013. You can check support of specific HP-UX servers (incl. HP9000) and HP-UX Versions at the follwoing link: http://www.hp.com/go/hpuxservermatrix

For HP contact details for sizing see http://h71028.www7.hp.com/enterprise/cache/42968-0-0-225-121.html

You will need to upgrade your database neverless, your version is ancient is out of support for YEARS.

Check

Note 612796 - Move to HP-UX Itanium systems

Note 671804 - Oracle database migration from HP-UX PA-Risc to Itanium

Just a short remark wrt maintenance dates for 4.6C. Best to check this on http://service.sap.com/maintenance we have seen some changes over the last few years.

Currently states

SAP Enterprise Support customers please note:

SAP Enterprise Support customers obtain extended maintenance for the following releases without an additional fee, as part of their SAP Enterprise Support contract:

SAP R/3 4.6C; to December 31, 2010

sap 4.6c has been out of support for a few years now

Oracle 8.0.5.2.1 has been out of support for a few years now

HP ux 11.11 is still supported

in order to upgrade, you will need to:

1. upgrade Oracle to 8.1.7

2. upgrade Oracle to 9.2

3. upgrade Oracle to 10.2.0.4

then, consider upgrading 4.6c to ECC 6.0 with EHP4.

your hardware might not be able to handle this. You should contact HP and consider buying a new server. HP can do the sizing for you. This service is free from HP.

The first question is: To what do you want to upgrade?
