Hi,
I would like to know what are the alternatives/procedures to relocate a a SAP PI/XI database (ABAP+JAVA) to a different server. This is a distributed configuration. The APP servers are running in a different machine. I am thinking that this should be as simple as restoring the DB and filesystems related to the database instance in the new servers and configure the connections on the existing application servers which remain in their old machines.
Any advise will be highly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi,
It should be, as long as the hostname of the new box is the same.
PI stores hell of its interfaceinformation in a hostname related manner.
Best would be to keep IP adresses as well.
Forget about the copy-guide for PI-related stuff, it works
ok for the netweaver part of PI, but if you change names,
adjusting Interface configuration will be a hole lot of work.
(It depends on the number of interfaces you have).
I have not done any of this myself, but heard of at least
6 migrations with change of hostname, that went awfully bad (with PI),
with the best one beinig a clean fresh installation and an
application based import of the interface definition, but that also
had to be postprocessed manually as far as the hostname stuff was concerned.
If you can not change the physical hostname, consider doing an
installation with a virtual hostname being identical to the old "real" one
and put the old box to rest
Good luck

look for an homogeneous system copy.
a sinmple backup/restore might not be enough becasue most Os related stuff will be lost.
