While upgrading PI 7.1 systems to SPS08 and higher in High Availability Cluster Environment
A known issue crops up during Java stack upgrade via JSPM.
*An error pops up saying "CANNOT STOP SYSTEM XXX.Could not execute operating system process for action check stopped on instance <nn>.Process id is XXX.process name is sapcontrol......*
Solution
SAP has released a note 927637 (Web service authentication in sapstartsrv as of Release 7.00) as a workaround to this issue.
First cleanup the profile directory. If there are some old profiles lying under the directory with extensions .XXX/ .orig/.backup/or any ambigous forms at the start or ending of the profile name ,then clean up all those ambigous profiles and keep only the profiles which are in their original form and currently in use.
Then follow the sap Note mentioned above.
Permission of the file should be -rwsr-x--- 1 root sapsys 933616 23 May 2009 sapuxuserchk.
NOTE Note does not state that the above mentioned permission changes to the file needs to performed in all application server's kernel. This needs to be done for each and every application server's kernel in the system .otherwise you will receive the same error even after that.
Cheers

Hi Subhranshu
Thank you for your note. I have had the same issue while updating the Java SPs and it was resolved by adding the entry "service/admin_users = <sid>adm" in the DEFAULT.pfl (Windows on PI 7.10).
