Hi,

You can sure delete .trc file...

But alert_<SID>.log contains useful information about oracle activities.

In alert_<SID>.log, Oracle keep logging the information whatever happening right from the database startup to database shutdown.

So it is important log file to check oracle errors.

Even if you want to delete alert_<SID>.log for any reason, first back it up and then delete. So that you can refer the log for past references.

Hi Sachin,

SAP always store .trc and alert_<SID>.log file under

/oracle/<SID>/saptrace/background

and

/oracle/<SID>/saptrace/usertrace

Hi,

You can delete the logs from that directory...

If there is alert_<SID>.log and db.log you can delete it...

alert_<SID>.log file would be in /oracel/<SID>/saptrace/background/ location.

What is the name of the log file which are big in size ? and what is the timestamp of the last entry in the same ?
