Server0 does not start after system copy

Hi Everyone,

I'm stuck with my problem and I couldn't find any solution from the forums. Here's the scenario, I installed SAP Netweaver Portal 7 for MS SQL/AS JAVA on our new Windows Server 2008. Everything works fine. I can even login to the portal thru http://<server>:<port>/irj/portal.

Now, I used sapinst to do system copy to export from our existing portal (OS: Windows Server 2003, Same version of Netweaver and Java). After that, I used sapinst once again on the target server and do system copy and it completed successfully. I then restart the server to make sure changes took effect. The problem now is that the Server0 does not start.

Hoping for your prompt assistance as I am doing this since yesterday.

? Why you need whis step if you want to do system copy ?

Yes I have read the user guide. I installed the SAP Netweaver at first because I didn't know that there is a system copy. I found that using the Export function is more difficult.

On JAVA system only you must do create an export of the Java central instance

it is are really not difficult (some minutes) and after do Homogeneous systemcopy using MSSQL specific procedure (you can simly restore database from existing backup on new server), and after start sapinst with system copy Regards.

you mean I need to do the system copy twice? I already exported the central instance and did a system copy but it didn't work. the status of Server0 on AS Java Process table remains as Starting Apps. Upon checking on the Developer Trace, I found these warnings:

Then it's no preblem at all, how much time is in Starting Apps ? Post full log dev_server0 ? (also all this warnings are not a problem).

No, i can't understand how you first install system, and after create system copy, or you do it on same server with other SID ? Explain more detailed please (step by step). Regards

First, I installed the Netweaver Portal as clean copy on the new server. Everything works fine but of course, I need to transfer all data from our old server. After some research, I found that I can use System Copy. So I used System Copy on our old server to export the Central Instance. Then I copied the generated files to the new server. I again used the System Copy to import the files to the new server. I now started the SAP System but the Server0's status stays at starting apps. It restarts infinitely.

haha, I just read from there the recommended settings for Heap sizes. I tried on my server and it suddenly worked fine. haha hope it helps, anyways

You set the very big heap size, it will not work (if you set 4096 MB) , you need set heap per note as i'm post -->

723909 , try to read about 64 bit server's max are 2048 MB . Regards.

No matter, max for server proces on windows x64 are 2048 (set both max and current) to 2048.

Try to read 723909 and set all parametes as recomended (to avoid future problems!!)
