Dear Experts,

I am doing a system refresh from my PRD server to QLY server (ECC 6.0, HP-UX and Oracle 10.2.0.2) using db backup/restore method using a full offline backup of the PRD server.

All went fine until i encountered the below error at 99.90 %

This was the same error i faced twice on the same server, but at different percentages (earlier at 7 % and 72.9 %)

Please find the below error messages. and i request you to kindly help me on this as my QLY is completely down since a week now

Indeed, a read errors, what Joe is saying..

With the fillup option of brrestore, you don't have to perform the restore over again, it continues where it failed.

Kind regards,

Mark

Hi Hanky,

BR0278E Command output of 'LANG=C dd ibs=64k bs=64k if=/dev/rmt/1mn of=/oracle/QLY/origlogB/log_g12m1.dbf':

dd read error: I/O error

edit initSID.sap file & change the parameter ibs=64k bs=64k to 1024k. And Try again.

Dear All,

Thanks for the inputs.., we are planning to replace the tape drive.

I have suggested the data center guy to clean the tape drive before we replace it.

I have tried this activity repeatedly but i some point of time during the restore i get that error. So no point in redoing the restore immediately after the error.

Kishore ~ thanks for the command.., its something new for me. I missed the chance to use it as it is cleaned now.

Thanks and regards

It seems you did not try -fillup option? As has been pointed out repeatedly, there is no need to restore the same files again and again.

If you got to, let's say 70 %, then chances will be good that you will proceed to 100 % on the second or third try. Or what am I missing here?

IO Errors generally comes with device/utility....restart your restore process.

Or

Restore your backup by executing below command:

brrestore -b filename(.aft for offline .ant for online) -m full

*Scan/check the connectivity of your backup device before proceeding with restore

Dear Experts,

Thanks for your inputs.., can you please give me the syntax for the brrestore with fill option, i used the below option to restore the database

brrestore -m full -b <logfile>.fft

I also asked the data center guys to cleanup the tape drive once.

Awaiting for your suggestions

Thanks and regards

Something like this: brrestore -c -b bdrsklwq.anf -fillup rdrsmhnp.rsb -p initS1P.sap

Check the documentation of brrestore for the exact syntax for your situation.

Dear haree,

Since the data files restore is complete. Jus restore the online redo log files as well as control file with the below command.

brrestore -m 00 -b <log file name>

This will restore all online redolog files

brrestore -m 0 -b <log file name>

this will restore only controlfile.

check whether alll the files are restore and Then try opening the db.

A read error from your tape.

If you are lucky, it will work when you try again.

Start brrestore with fill option.

And it can't hurt if you insert a cleaning tape first.
