Hi,
The scenarios where XI can be used are way too many to be mentioned here! the list can just go on! Basically, from any one application system to another application system...A2A and also B2B scenarios. In brief they will be of the following types:-
SAP<->SAP
SAP<->Non-SAP
Non SAP can be either a legacy system/web service

HI,
Thanks for replies.
Can we use XI for Non SAP systems also.. i mean to ask, send er and receiver both are non sap systems.. if so, give me one example..
SAP has provided IDOC, RFC adapters. Why both..
and any other adapters other than, IDOC and RFC.?
THanks

Hi,
SAP XI is an Integration Platform/Broker. You can use as integrtaion tool for nonSAP systems also.
Simple E.g FTPing the file. If you want to transfer the file from one system to another system, you can use XI is an Integration Tool.
SAP has provided IDOC, RFC adapters. Why both..
>>>XI can communicate with SAP applications systems (R/3,SRM) etc via
- Idoc
- RFC
- ABAP proxy
Answer is implicit here.
Go thru this SAP help-

Hi Jen,
>>Can we use XI for Non SAP systems also
Yes, you can use XI to integrate no-SAP systems also.
>>send er and receiver both are non sap systems.. if so, give me one example..
Yes, even when both the systems are non-SAP, XI can be used. It is an integration platform, a middleware which will help any two systems communicate with each other.
Ex. You can be picking the values from a table and saving these values in a file on your PC!
>>SAP has provided IDOC, RFC adapters. Why both..
SAP has provided both in order to give you the option of either sending data in the form of an IDoc or by calling the required function modules (ABAP programs which have been registered as remote in the SAP system) to do the neceesary work.
>>and any other adapters other than, IDOC and RFC.?
Yes, here are the rest of the adapters:-

Hi Jen,
>>Can anybody tell me where actually XI used in Real Time!
XI is a middleware used when you want two or more systems to communicate with each other.
I am currently working on a project-where everyday, data is loaded from an SAP R/3 system into another SAP HR system. This data is being sent through XI - so that certain validations also can be performed - this is real time for you:)
>>Is it supports between EAI(enterpeise application integration) also?
So, it surely does!
>>And in what other areas we can use XI.
You can use XI not only as a means of communication between systems, but also make the communication "stateful"- with the help of ccBPM
It is capable of creating a platform for communication for many systems at one time!

Right now, there in one interesting forum discussion happening on the same topic, here's the link:-
You will find a whole lot of information on sdn regarding XI...
Happy exploring!
