I saw that thread when I was searching the forum. I was wanting a comprehensive list. I managed to come up with the following list of taxes , the applicability will have to be confirmed by the clients auditors and type of Industry :
Summary - Different forms of Taxes in force
1 Income tax u2013 Payable by individuals, sole proprietors and partnerships
2 Corporate tax - Companies are liable to pay tax on profits earned
3 Withholding tax u2013 Taxes deducted at source such as Interest and dividends
4 Tax on Goods and Services VAT (value added tax)
5 Value Added Tax VAT replacing Turnover tax u2013 this is now replaced by VAT
6 Economic Service Charge- Based on turnover exceeding Rs. 50 million.
7 Tax on International Trade u2013 relates to imports
8 Excise tax u2013 Levied on tobacco, liquor, petroleum
9 Licence fees u2013 Motor vehicle licence etc
10 Capital Gain Tax u2013 Arising from change of ownerships
11 Double Tax Relief u2013 Avoidance of double tax where it is agreed
12 Social Responsibility Levy
13 Stamp Duty
14 Port & Airport Development Levy (PAL)
15 Cess
16 Regional Infrastructure Levy
17 Nation Building Tax ( NBT )
