IF else in Bex

I have two columns that I use to calculate a Variance Column. But now I need to calculate a new column which would determine 'F' or 'U' depending on the value of the variance column. How can I do this?

For example if a value is > 1000 show 'F' else show 'U'

Unfortunately this is not possible directly as you can never display a Characteristic value in a Key Figure because Key figure can only hold numerical value.

Lets Say I do not want to display the 'F' or 'U' but just want to highlight the values in Variance with a certain color depending on the value.

Yes, you can do that in Bex itself using Exception which will be there on top of your Query Designer Menu Bar.
