Installation of ESS & MSS in SAP NW system, ECC 6.0 vs EP 7.0

Hi Expert,

I have a query regarding SAP_HR and ESS, MSS installation and thought to discuss with you.

I have gone throught this https://websmp107.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700001286271999E FAQ,

But I am still not clear.

Here is the scenirio:

We have ECC 6.0 EHP4 and EP 7.0 System

We have HR team.

Now I would like to apply ESS and MSS in EP 7.0 system with following component.

BPP ERP ESS 1.41 -Do I need to apply this compoennt in ECC system or EP system

BPP ERP MSS 1.41-Do I need to apply this compoennt in ECC system or EP system

PCUI GP 603-Apply in EP system

ESS 603- Do I need to apply this compoennt in ECC system or EP system

MSS 600-Do I need to apply this compoennt in ECC system or EP system

How ECC and EP would work if I deploy ESS and MSS in EP.

And also what is the relevance of EA_HR in ECC system if I already deploy ESS and MSS in EP system.

IF you need futher information,please feel free to reply back.

Thanks,

Manas

Request all SDN followers,expert,please help.

Please help me to understand the difference between and why all below compoent in EP system, then why EA_HR in ECC system ?

BPP ERP ESS 1.41

BPP ERP MSS 1.41-

VS

ESS 603

MSS 600

And what PCUI GP 603-Apply in EP system

And relevance of EA_HR in ECC system

Thanks,

Hi,

ESS/MSS has a very strange architecture (and bad in my opinion) :

The Java parts call RFC abap module functions in HR module which are made available when you activate EA_HR.

The customizing of JAVA web dynpros screens is done from ABAP customizing transactions which exist only when you activate EA_HR in ECC6.

This explains the very tight dependency of support packages between the java stack and the abap stack.

When you have imported EHP3 in ECC6, you need release 1.41 for Java ESS.

There is now a rumor that for EHP5, SAP is rewriting ESS entirely with ABAP web dynpro. For sure, I hope this is true because that dependency nightmare would be gone !

You apply all these Java packages in the EP which used for ESS/MSS users log on, in case you already have your ECC installed as a dual stack system, which it shouldn't be.

Hi,

Yes, I can confirm that all these components are to be installed (deployed with JSPM) in the JAVA stack.

These are the applications and portal content for ESS/MSS.

Check this excellent Wiki page : [HOW TO GET RID OF SP STACK MISMATCH ISSUES|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/ERPHCM/HOWTOGETRIDOFSPSTACKMISMATCHISSUES]

This is the only place where I was able to understand the SP dependencies...

Hi my friend

1. Apply those packages you listed in your EP 7.0;

2. Create ECC reference system in EP system landscape;

3. Setup SSO between ECC and EP, configure UME use LDAP or ECC backend;

4. Establish JCO connections.

You could find details in HCM best practices --> N03_XSS Connectivity document.

Dear Friend,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I have got the idea from your post. however I still have some doubt and came to you.

ESS 603-MSS 600, I have read somewhere in SDN that these need to apply in ECC system..

Also, what is the relevance of EA_HR in ECC system if I already deploy ESS and MSS in EP system.

I could NOT find this PATH details in HCM best practices --> N03_XSS Connectivity document,could you please send the detail path.

Request you to please help.

Best regards,

Manas

I'm not sure I can explain this for you clearly, but from basis perspective, that's the magic works through Jco connections(metadata and app data) to ECC with SSO. As you could observe in AL08, there'll be several RFCs established, metadata ones by the connection user, application data ones by the same SSO user or mapping user. Your points are welcome if you like the answer!
