Error: "Unfortunately we have trouble completing your download request"

When I try to download the SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment 7.1 SR5 - Developer Edition, I get this error (like many others have):

Unfortunately we have trouble completing your download request. Please contact sdn@sap.com for further support. 

And I of course sent an email to sdn@sap.com, but I do not expect this to be fixed, as others have done the same before me and the problem still exists.

I have tried with:

- Windows 7, IE 7

- WIndows 7, Firefox 3.6.3

- Windows XP, IE 6

- Windows 7, Firefox 3.5.8

In all cases I cleared my browser cache, cookies and history. In all cases I get the same error.

The final download URL that seems to fail is this one:

https://downloads.sdn.sap.com/netweaver/ce/71SR5/SDN_Preview_SR_5_CE71.rar

and the headers in the response are:

HTTP/1.1 302 Moved Temporarily
Server: AkamaiGHost
Content-Length: 0
Location: https://downloads.sdn.sap.com/scnsorry.html
Date: Sat, 10 Apr 2010 18:00:00 GMT
Connection: keep-alive
Vary: Accept-Encoding

Hopefully someone at SAP can fix?

In the meantime, can SAP please do many of us a favour and place a copy of the downloads on the FTP site? The folder

"ftp://ftp.sap.com/pub/sdn/devkits/netweaver/java/" is empty, perhaps that is a good home!

Does anyone know of another place to download these? I have had many problems with downloads from the SAP site over the past few years; unfortunately I had a feeling it was not going to work before I even tried it. You think this would be stable by now... 😛

Hi Robert,

I will work after clearing browser cache and temp file...Also allow popup blocker for this site.

Please check the network connectivity in your system and login with your SDN ID.

If you sttill face the same problem, then try to start your system and try again

I have the exact same problem. This has never worked for me and I have tried it from multiple systems with no luck. This problem makes it very hard for ISVs such as ourselves to partner with SAP!

Hi Arun, thanks for the reply and suggestions.

Unfortunately I tried everything you suggested and I still get the same error.

clearing browser cache and temp file

I cleared Temporary Internet files / cache, Cookies, History, Form Data, Passwords, and InPrivate Filtering Data.

I ran Disk Cleanup and deleted everything: Downloaded program files, Temporary internet files, Offline web pages, Recycle Bin, Temporary files, Memory dumps, etc. etc. (about 20 items in the list).

Also allow popup blocker for this site.

I enabled the popup blocker for *.sap.com.

Please check the network connectivity in your system and login with your SDN ID.

I verified I have good connectivity with speedtest.net and pingtest.net reports line quality of "A".

I logged in with my SDN ID (S-user).

If you sttill face the same problem, then try to start your system and try again

I rebooted and logged in again clean.

I still get the error .

Is anyone on SDN able to download the file right now? Perhaps the Akamai network has corrupted this file in ther caches for certain geographic regions.

SAP: is there any way to bypass the Akamai network and go direct to the SAP servers? Again, if the files were available via FTP then this would help those of us who the SAP site simply will not download to... please help!

Thanks again Arun. Still no luck, same results.

I did receive a reply from SCN regarding this error (even on the weekend!). They said this is a known problem, and is also a problem for SAP employees (so you are lucky the download links work for you!), that they have plenty of technical clues as to what is causing the issue, and that development is working on it. But still no ETA on a fix, and they also said SAP Legal will not allow them to place the files on the FTP site.

So I guess I will wait and try again in a month or so.

Just tried again and the download is working for me now. I don't know if SAP fixed something, or like you say Arun it just sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.

SAP: if you fixed this, thanks very much!!!

Hi all,

I had downloaded this couple of months back and the installation and everything was successful and working. Last week my system has crashed due to hard disk failure and i lost all the software and other stuff.

Since last week i am trying to download Netweaver 7 ABAP Trial. But no luck yet. I have followed all the guideline provided above and even trying almost 20 times a day...............but no luck............

Finlay i the trial has been downloaded from the ftp://ftp.sap.com

But i don't know the details whether it supports windows/32 bit....etc

Purpose of this post is that if any body know the alternate trick to download it from sdn.sap.com.....please share it here.....becoz download from ftp is like dirtying your hand in.............
