SAP Disp+work Not sarting after MS SQL Server DB Restore

Hi

I installed the MS SQL Server & the SAP system on a server, after that I retored the Database from a Full backup when I tried to start the SAP form MMC I found that the disp+work is starting then stops. the new server is an off line server with the same name & same SID as the old one.

Note that I have read the SAP note 551915 & when I try to execue the scripts it give the error that the user SID alredy exists;

I have read that I can use the STM tool but I am cluess on how to use it, any help would be appriciated.

HI,

start LISTENER from SERVICES.MSC from RUN.

or from command prompt

c:\> LSNRCTL

LSNRCTL> start

and check whether database is started or not at this stage.

goto command prompt

c:\> sqlplus "/as sysdba"

sql> startup

then try to start your SAPMMC.

However, I am afraid it didn't solve my problem.

I need to inform everyone that I managed to make it start & preventing it from shutting down by restarting the MS SQL Server form the services.

However it is still Yellow and stating that J2EE status unavailable, Any ideas. !!!!

Hi,

Please check the Java version compatible for your server....verify with javaws in Start>>run

And update the EWnviromental System Variable in My Conputer and update host file entry in drivers(Start>>Run > Drivers>> etc>host)

Then try to start it. I will resolve your J2EE status unavailable issue and will successfully start your server.

Hi,

J2EE status unavailable issue comes due to server to unable to find correct Java version on your system.

For that you need to check default Java version on you desktop. by Start>>run>>javaws, it will show default java version on ypour system.

- Update the JAVA_HOME Enviromental System Variable in My Computer : My Computer >> Properties >> Advance Tab >> Enviromental Variable >> System Variable >> Add JAVA_HOME = <path for Java bin Directory>

- Update IP and server Host name in Start>>Run > Drivers>>etc>>host file

- Start your database services in Start >> Run >> services.msc...search for your database server and start it as prperties Automatic.

Then try to start your server.

Thanks for replying.

I checked the environment variables and I see the JDK in the JAVA_Home is there however when I type the javaws in the Run the windows gives a notification that it doesn't recognize the Command.

Hi,

If you are not able to run JAVAWS proprely, then it might the case Java not installed properly in your system.

Install Java in your system again and check it.

To be more clear about the subject,

I installed the j2sdk 1.4.2_15_x64 after that I installed SAP, when i type the javaws in the run is not starting, so I removed it and reinstalled it again but it was no diffrent from the last time.

after that I downloaded the jdk 1.6.0_19 & installed it and now the execution for the javaws in the run is OK, then I changed the Environment variables to the new path > stopped SAP > restarted SAP and it still gives the J2EE unavailable.

How can I know if the java version is compatible with the SAP that I have.

I want you to know that the efforts you are putting are highly appreciated.

Sorry for not replying soon, but I was having problem with my login authorizations.

Anyway the good news is that the J2EE problem got resolved, which I am not really sure how it happens, but the bad news is that I applied the latest transactional log backup to restore the MS SQL Server DB, however when I tried to start the SAP the Disp+work.exe stopped working again after it starts shortly.

I tird to restarting the MS SQL Server database many time, which solved the problem before, to no avail.

After that I did the Full DB restore again and it still the same.

I have someting to ask when I want to post the content of a log or a trace file why they it appears in disorder when viewed !!!!

You mix everything ....

As i can understand you have 1 server is are ABAP+JAVA stack, and now you want to restore this SAP server on other

host with same name and same SID?

In your situation need to be done homogeneous system copy procedure, only restore database with same SID are not enough.

First of all you need to export the Java central instance from source system using sapinst ....

Second step are restore DB (or deattach attach)

And the last step are install SAP system using System copy procedure in sapinst.

Try to read "System Copy for SAP Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver 7.0 xxx release ABAP+JAVA"

About JAVA version, for systems based on 7.0 only 1.4.2.xxxxxxx Java version are supported try to read -->

Note 716604 - Access to Sun J2SE and recommended J2SE options

I think I now know what is exactly the problem but not sure about the solution.

I have re-installed the whole thing & I have restored the backup & everything worked fine as the disp+work.exe was Green.

however, after I applied the permanent license in the system I was able to login into all clients, however when I restarted the server the same problem happened again which is the disp+work.exe stopping exactly after 10 sec.

What do I have to do after I applied the license.

I am sure that I am missing something with my restore procedure, can anyone provide me with a note number of a doc on how to restore the SAP based on MS SQL server.

Hi,

Did you check Kernel version?

It often happens when you install new SAP (old kernel) and restore backup (upgraded kernel), and there are kernel version differences.

Please check the kernel.

No, I haven't but I will try it & let you know of the outcome, but what is bothering me is that after I saw this error in the dev_disp (Error 11 while initializing OS dependent part) I figured it may be the SAPOsCOL in the services so, I restarted it and the disp+work.exe is not shutting down, however it is in yellow with the J2EE problem again. I am not sue if I restarted the server it will work or not.

the SAP system copy is in my agenda after I perfect this backup & restore procedure, however I have read on Microsoft that especially with SQL Server 2005 it is risky to do the DB attach & detach, hence I am delaying it for later.

By the way, somthing you said interested me "get source Java export to create the Java Stack of target system"

Hi,

Hope you are doing restore of ABAP stack system. If it is pure ABAP+Java stack then you need to see the system copy guide and get source Java export to create the Java Stack of target system.

Find the id 'qas' in login section of the MS SQL instance using SQL Studio for SQL 2005. Open the properties window for the id and check if it has db_owner authorization on QAS db.

The qas id must created and db_owner authorization needs to be given to it.
