what is exactly meaning o f usage and higher level item category?
Hi,
High level item category is the item category of the high level item. For example, you would like to create a BoM. Main-item is the PC and sub-item is the keyboard. So you enter the sales order like this
Item Material Quantity High-level item Item category
10 PC 1 TAN
20 Keyboard 1 10
Then when determining the item category of item 20, the High level item category will be found as TAN. The system will searching for such a entry in VOV4.
The usage is another key word for item category determination. However it is filled hard-coded for some special process, for example repair process.
So the usage is normally blank.
Hope it helps.
Best regards,

Hi
Specifies the item category for higher-level items in sales order and delivery processing.Higher-level items are items for which you create sub-items.
The item category of the higher-level item determines the item category of related sub-items.
Example:
In a sales order, you want to create a rebate in kind item that is dependent on a higher-level item. You first create a higher-level item for 100 units. You then create a sub-item for a rebate of one unit and assign it to the higher-level item. When you create and assign the sub-item, the system automatically proposes an item category for it.
Thanks.
