TDMS - time based reduction - receiver system deletion

Former Member

Experts,

I'm doing a time based reduction. I'm on the step "Start Deletion of Data in Receiver System". It's been running for over 18hours.

But I don't see any jobs running in SM66 on the Central/Control or Sender or Reciever systems.

When I click on the "Task" button, I see it has completed 8,444 of 12,246 sub activites. There are 3,802 not yet started.

We're on all the latest levels of DMIS and ECC.

Any ideas?

Thanks

NICK

Hello Nick,

Check in receiver system if you find any active jobs with TD09* ?? check from the date you started this activity.

See there is a job which you can see in the process tree for deletion and then it triggers these TDO9* jobs for each objects.

if none are active now then i feel due to some problem further jobs were not triggered for the subsequent objects.

in this case you might need to trigger the deletion activity again.

Niraj,

There are no active jobs in reciever system. The TD09* jobs all finished according to SM37:

Job started

Step 001 started (program CNV_TDMS_09_RESTART_JOBS, variant &0000000000009, user ID

Job TD09P_TBZ3X released

Job TD09P_TBZ4 released

Job TD09P_TBZ4A released

Job TD09P_TBZ4B released

Job TD09P_TBZ4C released

Job finished

So there are no jobs active, and yet, in TDMS it shows that status of the deletion as "Running"

So how would I kill/force this to restart?

1) did you see any progress after 2 hours? Do you see any re-do log generated if Oracle is the DB for the receiver?

2) maybe you can terminate this TDMS run. Then delete the receiver client thru SCC5. Re-start TDMS afterward.

3) did you drop the secondary indexes before the deletion?

Ashley,

No, no movement in oracle that I can see.

How do I terminate a TDMS run that shows "running" as the status on the job when there are no jobs I can kill in SM50 in sender/control/receiver?

I don't think doing SCC5 is that smart as I do need a "shell client" to start with, which is what I have...but correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not trying to delete the client, just the data

I didn't drop any idexes. I don't see that in the opeeration guide as a step.

Hello Nick,

Just check in the troubleshooter and see if there is any option to change the status of the activity manually ?? if it is then change the status to aborted.

right now i am not having access to any system so that i can check and tell you.

I have a sidekick.

The performance of TDMS is a nightmare for me as well.

Can we share tips and tricks here?

Also since TDMS jobs typical can run several days, if there is an accidental downtime for sender/receiver/controller,

will the TDMS job resume or simply abort?

Thanks!

Hello Ashley,

I agree Performance has been a problem. But its not inevitable. There are several notes released, recommendations to improve performance.

Regarding your question :

Also since TDMS jobs typical can run several days, if there is an accidental downtime for sender/receiver/controller,

will the TDMS job resume or simply abort?

See, As you are quiet experienced with the TDMS now, you will be fully aware that TDMS jobs run across the three systems. If suppose any system goes down and some TDMS job was running on it then it will get aborted. No automatic resume is possible.

We can share the tips and tricks. But better not disturb Nick's thread. If you want you can start a new thread.

Ashley and Niraj,

Hey, I'm all for tips/tricks so don't worry about messing up my thread.

I completely shut down the central/control system via stopsap and restarted. Still it was in "running" status but no jobs were running on sender/rec or central/control.

So I tried the trouble-shooting but it was un-clear to me what to do.

I ended up highlighting the phase I reference earlier, then doing "execute" again. The status changes from the "truck" to a green flag and I started to see jobs run again on the receiver system. Again they have stopped, but I see another job scheduled to run in a few minutes....It's just weird, I didn't run into this on my last time-based copy.

I'll post a few things I've learned to increase performance:

RDISP/MAX_WP_RUNTIME = 0

At LEAST 25 WP and 25 BCK procs

rec/client = OFF

RDISP/BTCTIME = 60

RUN STATS regularly

TAKE OUT OF ARCHIVELOG MODE

If anyone wants to help, I'd appreciate it.

I'm still unable to finish the job marked "Start Deletion of Data in Receiver System"

This job gets scheduled in REC system every 30 min

CNV_TDMS_09_RESTART_JOBS - it does a few things and then schedules for 30 min in the future.

I don't want to have to start all the way over, but I don't know how to get this to "fail" so I can restart it correctly.

HELP!

Could you post any log or trace that you think relevant here so we can help?

Thanks!

Hello Nick,

Is the activity still showing running ?? Did you checked the tasks and then sub activities ? i faced a similar problem today where for sometime no jobs were running in the receiver system but later central system resumed all the jobs and it got finished successfully.

Niraj:

You mean that the jobs at the receiver got reassumed? Please confirm they are jobs on the receiver side.

Thanks!

Hello Ashley,

Yes, deletion jobs run on the receiver system. Its strange to me as well. But note that there was no downtime of the system. I just believe the successive jobs started delayed.

Niraj,

When I logged in this morning and checked the status, now it says "Execution Aborted". for the phase "Start deletion of data in recieiver system"

So I'm going to try and restart again. if this doesn't work, I'm just going to start it all over. I'm not crazy about this tool but I'm stuck with it....

Hey Ashley,

thanks for offering to help. I wish I could give you a relevant log. But SM21, SLG1 and in TDMS i'm not seeing anything....

THen again, this is only my second attempt at using the tool since it was setup. So I'm definitely not sure where to look to give you what you need.

Hello Nick,

Before you start again implement SAPnote # 1457185 in your receiver system.

Hey Niraj,

I applied the note via SNOTE in the REC system , but I could not follow the manual instructions for the step:

Choose Content (CTRL + Shift + F10)

apparently, I get :

No database view exists for view V_CNVMBTPARAMS

Message no. MO404

--NICK

I'm going to kick it off one more time, then I'm going to delete the client manually and start this all over

I have a suggestion:

1) abort current jobs

2) then use the minimal time slice to do it again.

Let us know. Thanks!
