APO or BI infoobjects?

Former Member

Hi,

When we create Key figures in APO BI, the system asks if you want to creat it as APO or BI Key figure.

Same is for the Characteristics. The question is should we create

1. Key Figures as APO or BI Kfs?

2. Characteristics as APO or BI Chars ?

Any reason why we choose one over the other?

Thanks,

Tej

Dear Tej,

1. While creating Characteristics we create "BW" type characteristic.

SAP help describes as below

Compared to BW characteristics there are the following restrictions for the use of characteristics in Demand Planning.

Data types DATS u2013 Date and TIMS u2013 Time are not permissible.

2. While creating Key figure for APO, SAP has recommended to use only "APO " type KF and not the BW type.

When create a APO type KF, we have additional filed , which hepls to input the other KF name which willl hold say "note" details . Therefore if we create a KF of BW type, then while taking back up from plannng area to infocube, we will loose the information of "note' created for this KF in any period.

Hope this helps to clarify even if not full reasoning.

Hi,

In addition to what Datta has explained, another important aspect of using the APO KF over BI KF is the ability to fix KF. Meaning locking the value of a KF. This can be achieved only using the APO KF. Hence APO KF Is teh preferred one.

Hope this is helpful.
