Upgrade VIRSA CC 4.0 to RAR5.3

Hi ,
We are planning to upgrade VIRSA CC 4.0 to RAR5.3 , I have completely gone through upgradation documents etc , I am looking for best practices and lessons learned during this upgrade from the people who have already done this ( VIRSA CC.40 TO RAR 5.3 ) upgrade .
In short I would like to know
1) What will be the tentative duration for this project ( How many man hours required to complete this)
2) What are the precautions that need to be taken before upgrade( Apart from the points mentioned in upgrade document)
3) What is the best practices steps to do the upgrade
