SAP Webdispatcher does not resolve the client IP

Former Member

Hi, We have developed an application in portal to get the client IP & the

computer name. The issue is SAP Webdispatcher does not resolve the client IP.

The log on the portal j2ee server always gets the IP address of SAP Web

dispatcher instead of the clients

But if the clients connect to the URL of the portal servers directly, the

portal servers are able to capture it

The issues happens when the client browser uses the web dispatcher URL

Any idea?

Thanks in advance

Hi Abdullah,

In this case the webdispatcher is both the server (for accepting connections from your client) and a client to the portal (to request data) so you can tell the webdisp to forward the complete HTTP header with the "wdisp/handle_webdisp_ap_header = 1" parameter. With the complete header the portal should be able to resolve the IP address from the hostname.

P.S. This page is a great resource for configuring the webdisp

http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BSP/Using+Proxies

Hope this helps

Hi,

>the Portal servers always catch the SAP web dispatchers IP instead of client IP

There is NO IP connectivity between the web browser and the portal.

The is exactly the job of a reverse proxy which is the use of the sap web dispatcher.

If you want HTTP logs with the web browsers IP, generate them at the SAP Web Dispatcher level.

Olivier

You will not find your solution until and unless you document your interfaces & system landscape.
