Not all organisation have been born with SAP as ERP, they mostly have already for years other systems to do their business.
Now they have implmented SAP, all data that already exists in leagcy (old) systems needs to be copied to SAP.
Like master records: customer, material, vendor, gl account, cost centers
sales documents, billing documents,....
