Connection to SAP

Hi Gurus

I have a number of questions that need solutions.

1. Is it possible to connect to SAP without using SAPRouter via solution manager. In this regard i would like to know if its possible for the RFC SAPOSS to connect to sap even though i do not have a saprouter.

2.When installing SAP router on VPN do i need to install the cryptographic library or not. I have tried to installing SAProuter on the Solution manager server with two network cards, the first one has got the an internal ip address and the second one has got the same ip address as the vpn gateway, are these configurations correct, i also didnt install any cryptographic library. I also need a step guide on how to configure on vpn.

3. Can maintenance optimizer be configured in the absence of SAProuter.
