Migration of Oracle DB from Windows NT to AIX

Hi,

We are planning to migrate the DB Instance from Windows NT to AIX, while the application continues to run on Windows NT.

Did anyone else here move from a Central System to a Distributed system.

Do we need to order GoingLive - Migration Check as expected for an OS/DB Migration.

regards,

AKD

Firstly, the proposed landscape what i got from your message is bit weird. SAP running on one os and db on other OS.

It is recommended to migrate or keep the both instances (DB + CI) one Operating system.

If you want to utilise the old hardware, you may use some boxes as a dialog instance, or solman or .....

But not the way you have explained

For any OSDB migration, sap recommends to carry out the activity with the OSDB Migration consultant.

If you ask me, if not the certified consultant, OSDB experienced consultant is advised

If you give the tentative migration timelines to SAP to the proposed landscape they will arrange to have a check in the Post migration system.

then all our systems are running under a weird landscape

Half of our systems are running with db2 on z/OS, CI and app.server under AIX and Linux. The others running oracle on AIX and the CI and app.server on AIX and Linux.

Hi,

When you do your Heterogeneous migration make sure you get your Endian's correct in Sapinst, because you will be switching.

And you will need Migration consultant / partner to sign it off or SAP will not support your system

See SAP note : 552464

Thanks for all the replies.

We have completed the task.

- R3load was used. Non-SAP objects were handled separately.

- We requested migration check by raising OSS message (component: SV-BO-REQ)

- Heterogeneous landscape is not so scary.

- Make sure that the time settings on APP server and DB server match.

Hi,

Do the hetrogenious system copy (Export/import) and get the migration key from SMP.

Thanks

Yes - you have to order a certified consultant for that heterogeneous migration.

Windows is a little endian platform, AIX is big endian, so you have to use R3load export/import.
