When I (admin) want to switch the mode of operation (START/ STOP) of the channel I use the Manual mode....when I want it to happen through some event/ call, i would switch to Automatic.

Simple search in sdn will answer your query,

Availability planning used to schedule your communication channel to run on particular time.

Manually option used when if you want start comunication channel by your self.

automatically it will start without your intermision.
