Kernel upgrade

Former Member

Hello ,

Our SAP installation is as follows:

EHP 4 for SAP ERP 6.0 /7.0

OS= Win 2003 SR2

DB= Oracle 10.2.0.2.0

Kernel level = 15

The issue is we are trying to upgrade our kernel , the upgrade goes fine , the system is up and running after the upgrade. However after 20 minutes or less the kernel goes back to its previous level before the upgrade without any human intervention.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Osama

Theres only 1 folder where you should upgrade the kernel... once updated sapcpe.exe distribute the files around.

The location where the new kernel should be dumped is /sapmnt/<SID>/exe in UNIX ev... for Windows is /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/<n>uc/<platform>

That info is located at the very end of SAP Note 19466 - Downloading SAP kernel patches

Hi my friend

It's hard for me to understand how this could possibly happen, did you observe it in system --> status --> other kernel info or SM51 --> release notes that the kernel patch level changed after system start 20mins?

To upgrade kernel files (SAPEXE.SAR, SAPEXEDB.SAR, IGSEXE.SAR) on windows please make sure to replace old kernel files with new ones extracted from 3 files above in directory /usr/sap/<SID>/DVEBMGSnn/exe and /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run both after a backup.

Also, pay attention to the processes in MMC or task manager, if there's a process named "sapcpe" started first, which does the job of synchronizing kernels between those 2 directories.

Hello Friend,

Yes in there different places we confirm the new kernel :

1)disp+work show the new kernel

2)system ststus show the new kernel

3) SM51 also show the new kernel

And yes the new kernel has replaced the correct file on the following location:

Paste the extracted Kernel file to the folders mentioned below

- C:\usr\sap\EC2\SCS01\exe

- C:\usr\sap\EC2\SYS\exe

- C:\usr\sap\EC2\DVEBMGS00\exe

Finally

IGSEXE.SAR is not available for Win 2003 64 bit

Thanks

Check in the dev_w* ,dev_disp files in work directory. As well check the system/even log.
