Raj,

Optimizer server I believe is a Windows based server, whereas your SCM might be Unix based, so may not be able to put it on the same server.

The recommendation is to put the optimizer on a separate box, so that the performance is very good.

The connection is a RFC connection.

Yes, you can use the same optimizer across Dev, Test & Prod. But the general practise is to use one for Non Prod Env and one for Production Environment again for the sake of performance and also upgrading and testing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Mani

Hi Raj,

1) It is not recommendable to connect both SAP SCM system and optimiser

in the same system.

Optimiser is always externally integrated with SCM system which can

access the database server and as well as Livecache. The Optimiser

will store the results of optimisation run in SCM systems dataset.

An optimizer can work with a frontend (for example, PC) and a separate

optimization server on which the optimization run is executed. Generally,

the frontend and optimization server communicate with each other independent

of the SAP APO system.

If this communication is not directly possible, because, for example, the

optimization server and frontend are separated by a Wide Area Network

(WAN) and the SAP APO system and the optimization server are in a Local

Area Network (LAN), the optimization server and frontend can communicate

through the SAP APO system.

The frontend sends the command to start the optimization server to the SAP

APO system. The optimization server and the SAP APO system exchange

the required data directly. After the optimization run, the optimization server

sends data to the frontend through the SAP APO system.

2) Yes, you can connect one optimiser server to many clients
