Hi there,
I have SAP NW2004s, Windows 2003 server 64bit, Oracle 10g
4 partition with 1 hdd, C for OS, D for SAP application E for system and oracle logs+archived, F for only database files
We are trying to get backup in extrinal HDD 3TB HDD... through Symantic exec backup utility ver. 12
C and D drivers are backup fine, but sometime when server very busy and symantic start full backup for E and D drive database shutdown... sap instance is fine, but only DB instance is stoped
We are not using Symantec Agent software, is there any other software can help for that for-exmaple VSS for oracle 10g... if yes, where may i get this software any link?
Why we are not using BR tools:
1 - as i maintion before when I select "E" drive which is all logs files located symantec stoped db instance
2 - in case if i am taking backup from brtools full backup online + archived so its only take database backup + archived, not all others structure in case hard-drive failer, and data restore from symantec so its will be ok with C drive and D drive, but its nohting resotre for E and D
when I try to restore from oracle brtools to restore its getting an error for missing structure in E
so thats why I am looking only one solution either perfect symantec with online backup
please give me some advised
Thanks
Hi,
Please use the standard & reliable Backup/Restore methods for any DB, to avoid more headache while Backup/Restore Operations.
Please refer [this thread|]. it will attend your most of questions. Some other alternatives (without using Backup agent) are mentioned there.
If you use Backup Agent to perform any DB backup, then It will be reliable method to perform Backup/Restore operations of DB.
With BR*tools u can also perform Non-Database Backup. Please refer [this link|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_NW04/helpdata/en/0c/cd271365debc42bef96ac7fd907787/frameset.htm] and other relative links.
If you have configured the Backup Exec utility with Oracle agent on the DB server, then you can perform Online Backup by deselecting "Perform the backup offline" option withing that Oracle Backup Job properties.
