Homogeneous System Copy (Tgt - Named Instance) R/3 4.6C SQL 2000 to 2005

Hi,

I have the following requirement.

Production System Info

-> Windows 2003 (32 bit)

-> SAP R/3 4.6c (Non-Unicode)

-> SQL Server 2000 (32 bit)

I have to copy the production system data to new system

using homogeneous system copy.

the Target system will be

-> Windows 2003 (32 or 64 bit not sure as of now)

-> SAP R/3 4.6C (Non-Unicode)

-> SQLSERVER 2005 (32 or 64 bit not sure as of now)

The requirement is I need to do homogeneous copy

to the new system and the SQL Server should be a NAMED instance.

(Source is not a named instance)

Is this possible. If yes, what are the prequisites like (like SAP Notes etc)

--> Source Version of SQL Server should be at least this patch ... etc..

--> Source OS should be Windows 2003 atleast this patch ... etc.

--> Source R/3 4.6c should be atleast this BASIS Patch ...etc.

Please share your valuable inputs.

Thanks & Best Regards

Hi,

the Target system will be
-> Windows 2003 (32 or 64 bit not sure as of now)
-> SAP R/3 4.6C (Non-Unicode)

If you migrate from Win 2k 32 bit to 64 bit, then you can still install 32 bit version of SAP 4.6C on 64bit OS. For product versions based on kernel 4.6D, only 32-bit operation on Windows 2003 SP1 64-bit is supported. It is only possible to migrate this application server to 64-bit by upgrading the SAP system to a release that uses at least kernel version 6.40.

Please refer SAP Note 960769 - Windows: Migration from 32-bit to 64-bit (x86_64) and SAP Note 814834 - Windows 2003 SP1 x86_64 Support for SAP releases to get more information.

-> SQLSERVER 2005 (32 or 64 bit not sure as of now)

Upgrade SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005 with named instance ? Please refer this Useful Guide "[Upgrade to and Installation of SQL Server 2005 in an SAP Environment|http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=00200797470000088973&_SCENARIO=01100035870000000202&_OBJECT=011000358700001156312007E]".

The minimum basis support patch level to run with SQL Server 2005 for SAP Release 4.6C is 53. Please refer SAP Note 799058 - Setting Up Microsoft SQL Server 2005.

Along with the above suggested SAP Notes, Also follow the following SAP notes other relative notes to get more information.

SAP Note 151603 - Copying an SQL Server database
