Hi APO Guruu2019s

We are planning to do an upgrade from SCM 4.1 to 5.1. The modules we are using are DP and SNP (only heuristics).

Could some one point out what are all the improvements (functional standpoint ) in DP and SNP from from 4.1 to 5.1..I want to do a document with all the functional improvements..

Appreciate your help and will rep ya..

Hi,

I have mentioned below points based on your requirement

1) In scm 4.1, the download, comparison and the upload were parallelized per planning version. If there is one large planning version, the performance improvement of this kind of parallelization is low. (LIVECACHE)

With the upgrade to release SCM 5.1 the download, comparison and the upload run parallel within the planning versions, depending on the number of CPUs of the liveCache (LIVECACHE)

2) In releases SCM 4.1 and 5.0 the enabling or disabling of ATP time series as well as updating the ATP time series bucket parameters is only possible via a complicated procedure. (ATP)

As of SCM 5.1 it is possible to change the bucket parameters of ATP time series, i.e. to enable or disable ATP time series or to update the bucket parameters in liveCache without the need of a liveCache downtime. (ATP)

3) Starting with this release time series data of Demand Planning will be stored in a compressed format reducing the liveCache memory requirement significantly. The compression rate of a time series depends on its data constellation and the memory consumption is influenced by the values stored in the buckets of the time series. Values smaller than ± 2.147.483 require 4 bytes, bigger values require 8 bytes of persistent memory. Zero and repeated values (same value as in previous bucket) require just one bit.

In order to estimate the savings in memory consumption SAP provides a tool to analyze an existing non-compressed set of time series. (DEMAND PLANNING)

4) The memory requirement of Demand Planning will decrease with SCM 5.1 compared to previous releases significantly because of the compression of time series data. For all other applications the memory requirements have not changed between SCM 4.1 and SCM 5.1. (MEMORY APPLICATION)

5) The process of recording simulative changes on time series data has been modified with this release. When merging a simulation into the real data, not all actions executed within the simulation are repeated but only changes on persistent data are transferred. Thus the performance of the merge process is improved significantly

Senthil,

Thanks for the detailed post. Most of the points you have mentioned are more of technical side (livecache, memory etc...).. what I am looking for is purely functional improvements..for example, are there any snp master data improvements? any dp forecasting graphical improvements? I am looking for these kind of improvements..could you please provide those?

I have to explain how an upgrade can improve the business to my client..so purely right now I ma looking for functional business scnearios improvemnt from 4.1 to 5.1

Thanks a lot for ya help in advance

Dear SCM,

You can check the release notes for SCM 5.1 to get more information.

Siva,

I already checked the release notes and looks like there is not much changed from 4.1 to 5.1 on a dp and snp heuristis level.

I just wanna makes sure if tthere is any master data improvements or graphical improvements in dp and snp.. do you know if any? Thx

Hi,

The changes that might concern you

1) Graphics in interactive planning - display of selected values in graph, display of simple arithmetic functions on the fly like row total, maximum - basically what you see in MSExcel 2007 at the bottom right of the window

2) Creating selection variants and assigning to selection profile

3) Reorder-point based heuristics

There has been a number of significant improvements in SNP optimizer in 5.1 compared to 4.1, in case you want to switch to that scenario. There has been little enhancement on DP side. You can check out SCM7.0. playing with DP forecasting techniques is much more fun and meaningful over there. Also the CVC maintenance is very easier and managable.

If there is a scope, you should have a look at SCM7.0 instead of going for SCM5.1 from SCM4.1. You value proposition to the business will be much stronger considering DP and SNP heuristics only.
