What are the options to reorganize tables with a LONG RAW column?

Oracle Version: Oracle 9.2.0.7

OS: HP Tru64

These tables have LONG RAW columns

ECC - EDI40

ECC - CDCLS

CRM - CDCLS

brtools checks for LONG columns, and you cannot reorginze the table.

What are the options for reorganization?

Option-1.

Upgrade to Oracle 10g.As of Oracle Database 10g, it is also possible to reorganize a table that has data type LONG or LONG RAW online. For releases prior to and including Oracle9i, this is not possible. Please refer SAP Note 835552.

Option-2.

With Oracle 9.2, the table with LONG and LONG RAW fields can be reorganized Offline, by exporting/importing such tables. Please refer SAP Note Note 646681 - Reorganizing tables with BRSPACE to get more information.

Bhavik G. Shroff is partly wrong, it is never possible to reorganize LONG RAW fields... unless you convert it to a LOB.

So, in the scenario 1 he provided, you are advised to convert LONG RAW to BLOB which can be done online on Oracle 10g.

Can you still think about reorg if you do an export/import offline?

yes, you can reorg tables with LONG RAW in offline mode. This is the only way you can do that in Oracle 9... unless you look at 3rd party programs such as Quest's LiveReorg which claims they can reorg LONG RAW online.
