Difference between Purchaser and Bidder?

Dear Experts,

I started reading about SAP Bidding Engine on help.sap.com and got confused with the very first lines.

Purchasers can use SAP Bidding Engine to create and process bid invitations and live auctions for products and services. Bidders can use SAP Bidding Engine to submit bids in response to these bid invitations and auctions.

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_srm30/helpdata/en/61/c3833cfa3dbc2ce10000000a114027/content.htm

In general a Purchaser is some one who wants to purchase goods/services and similarly a bidder is also some one who BIDS for goods/services and buy them.

So what is the difference here between purchaser and bidder?

Please explain the difference from SRM perspective..

Sorry if it sounds as very basic question ..

Thanks,

Anubhav

Hi

Purchaser is a person who is responsible for buying the goods in the purchase organisation - contact person from purchasing company - Purchaser creates a bid invitation for required goods and services and send the requirements to the vendor and negotiate the best price from different vendors.

bidder is a person who is submiting the bid from the supplier - contact person from vendor.- bidders can access the bid invitation through a hyperlink and enter the bids

in the purchaseru2019s Bidding Engine system.

registered employees of external business partners,

for bidders.

in the manage busines partners you can create a bidder for a vendor .

Bidders access the Bidding Engine by choosing Submit Bid from the menu.

Thanks

Hi Muthu,

Contrary to the general term BIDDER in SRM means the person who is proposing that i as vendor/supplier will supply the goods required by you at this price and proposing the price is called bidding.

Thanks a lot,

Anubhav
